This Little Prayer of Mine
Today's the return of Mia & Mommy's Book Blog. During my book fast, I continued to read to Mia each night, and we've recently discovered the wonders of Junie B. Jones and The Magic Tree House. Reading to her is one of my favorite times of the day!
This Little Prayer of Mine by Anthony DeStefano and Mark Elliot is the perfect read for bedtime. First Mia's review: The book is a prayer to God. It's something that I would say to Him. The picture of the little boy being left alone by his friends made me feel sad. I thought the pictures were very pretty. I liked that there was a picture of a pilot in it, because I want to be a pilot when I grow up. Now my review: I thought this book was fantastic, because it shows children that they can pray to God about anything. Whether they are afraid or feeling left out or sad or even guilty, they can turn to God in prayer and know that He will listen. Elliot's artwork is outstanding, very realistic but with a touch of whimsy. The ending brought a few tears to my eyes, because of the childlike, innocent faith and trust DeStefano has perfectly captured. While this is a bit longer than the traditional "Now I lay me down to sleep" prayer, this would make an excellent substitute!
Thank you to WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for providing me with a copy of this book for review.
Congratulations to Paula Bake, who won a copy of this book! I'm starting a new contest on Monday, so make sure you stop back then!
